Throttle Control

1 min read

Smooth and precise throttle input — the foundation of safe motorcycle riding.

What is it

Throttle control is the ability to operate the throttle smoothly and precisely. Abrupt throttle = highside, whiskey throttle, traction loss. Smooth throttle = control, stability, safety. The majority of rider-error crashes are throttle-related.

How it works

The throttle controls power delivery to the rear wheel. On corner exit — smooth roll-on stabilizes the bike. Abrupt opening overloads the rear tire. Abrupt closing overloads the front. Every throttle movement should be deliberate.

How to practice

  • «Maintenance throttle» — hold steady throttle through a corner
  • Practice smooth roll-on: closed to full in 3 seconds
  • Wrist down grip — prevents whiskey throttle
  • In corners: close-stabilize-open — three phases of throttle work
