Enduro
Riding a motorcycle off-road — dirt, rocks, forest, water. A different skill set and risk profile.
What is it
Enduro is off-road motorcycle riding: dirt roads, forest, rocks, mud, water crossings. It's a separate discipline with its own skills, bikes, and gear. Enduro skills improve street riding too — control on slippery surfaces, balance, clutch work.
How it works
On dirt, traction is significantly less than on pavement. The motorcycle constantly slides, and that's normal. You learn to control slides, ride standing on the pegs, and balance at slow speed through obstacles. Falls on dirt are much softer than on asphalt.
How to practice
- Start with an enduro school or beginner training
- Light bike (under 250cc) to start — easier to pick up after falls
- Gear: knee guards, elbow guards, chest protector, enduro helmet, boots
- Practice standing riding — standing gives better control over rough terrain
