Clutch Control

1 min read

Smooth clutch management for power control — essential for maneuvering and starting.

What is it

Clutch control is the ability to smoothly operate the friction zone of the clutch to manage power delivery to the rear wheel. It's the foundation of slow-speed maneuvering, smooth starts, and controlled maneuvers.

How it works

The clutch has a zone where it's partially engaged — the friction zone. In this zone, you control how much engine power reaches the wheel. Fully pulled in — zero power. Fully released — full power. Everything in between is your control range.

How to practice

  • Find your bike's friction zone — slowly release the clutch with no throttle
  • Practice starting on clutch alone, no throttle
  • Parking lot maneuvers — figure-eights and weaves using the friction zone
  • Clutch + rear brake combo — the key to full low-speed control
