Gymkhana

1 min read

Navigating a motorcycle through cone courses — the best training for slow-speed control.

What is it

Gymkhana is a motorcycle discipline involving navigating through cone courses at slow speed. Weaves, figure-eights, U-turns, tight maneuvers — all in limited space and against the clock. It's the best way to learn total motorcycle control.

How it works

Cones are set up in various patterns on a parking lot. The rider navigates the course at minimum speed, as precisely and quickly as possible. ALL fundamental skills are used: friction zone, low-speed countersteering, vision, body position, rear brake. It's a gym for motorcyclists.

How to practice

  • Find a local gymkhana group or practice solo in a parking lot
  • Start with simple exercises — figure-eights, weaves, U-turns
  • Record video of yourself — compare with skilled riders for analysis
  • Consistency beats intensity — 30 min weekly is better than 3 hours monthly
