ATGATT

1 min read

The principle of wearing full protective gear on every ride. Helmet, jacket, gloves, pants, boots — even for short trips.

What is it

ATGATT — All The Gear, All The Time — is the principle that a rider always wears full protective equipment: helmet, armored jacket, gloves, armored pants, and motorcycle boots. Even for a ride to the corner store.

How it works

Asphalt is an abrasive surface. At 20 mph without gear, skin grinds down to muscle in seconds. Armor protects joints from impact. The helmet is the only barrier between your brain and the pavement. Statistics: helmets reduce death risk by 37% and head injury risk by 69%.

What to look for

  • Helmet — minimum ECE 22.06 certification, replace after any impact
  • Jacket — shoulder, elbow, and back armor (CE Level 2)
  • Gloves — knuckle protection, reinforced palm
  • Pants — knee and hip armor
  • Boots — ankle protection, stiff sole
